Who are you?
Whoever you want me to be.
I'm Jay, an aspiring Sydney graphic designer and photographer guided by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's approach of 'less is more'. I love taking photos and putting designs together for books, magazines, websites and posters and a lot of my work borrows from Mother Nature as I love and value all the green and blue that surrounds me. I'm very straightforward, down to earth and prefer things to be definite as opposed to ambiguous and my visual style is reflective of this- clean and minimal, but also loud to bring attention to the simple detailing because no one likes looking at something boring, do they?
I can't decide whether Paramore or Keane was better live, but those two would have to be my favourite concerts I've ever been too. Paramore's performance of My Heart was amazing and Hayley picked up the sign that I made for her- 'Hayley, my heart, it beats, beats for only you', when I threw it onto the stage. Dancing and singing to Keane was so good especially whilst holding onto Tom's hand when he came into the crowd. I was also able to get the whole band to autograph the t-shirt I had made which said 'Keen for Keane' and Tom commented on how much he liked it! Not only do I enjoy alternative pop and rock, I love the sound of new jack swing, post-hardcore and vocal trance, but will certainly listen to almost anything. However, I particularly love the sound of Alexisonfire, Armin van Buuren, City and Colour, Craig David and Sunlounger.
Photography has been a long passion of mine going back as far as high-school and was my release from everything. I would go out and take photos on the dodgy digital camera my brother bought at the time and experimented with photo-manipulation extensively. If you were to ask me what I would have wanted to take up as a career back then, I would not have given photography a thought at all as I wanted to get into IT like my brother. It was a really big epiphany for me to realise that I could pursue my hobby as a career and that made me even more passionate and motivated to do it because I knew that would make me the happiest as I would be able to put my heart and soul into it.
I'd love to see myself living and working over in the UK in the near future as I adore everything about that wonderful part of the world- the accent, the landscapes, the culture and the history, and of course Keira Kngihtley! I'll definitely miss the great summer sun and the beautiful beaches of Sydney when I leave as my favourite place to go to is the beach at night. I particularly love going when I need to vent or get away from things as Mother Nature knows how to take care of me when I'm feeling down and out. There's just something about the sound of the water crashing onto the sand and the endless empty horizon that makes me feel free. Bondi was the first beach I fell in love with but Avalon would definitely have to be my favourite and Coffs Harbour Jetty is amazing at sunrise in the early morning but the Sea Cliff Bridge and The Gap is so peaceful and calming in the late night. Do tell me if you know of any other nice spots to go to, I don't bite, I promise!
